WABCU 2025 Public Report Released

The WABCU 2025 Public Report from Tangaroa Blue has just been released, highlighting the extraordinary effort of communities across Western Australia to protect our coastline from marine debris.

Held every October since 2005, the WA Beach Clean-Up (WABCU) is Australia’s longest running large-scale annual community-led beach clean-up event. This year’s report recognises the contribution of 1,579 volunteers and 70 organisations, alongside long-term partners, sponsors, and Traditional Custodians, who together removed 5.3 tonnes of marine debris from 70 locations across the state.

The report includes summary statistics and the Top 10 items found, data insights by NRM region, Community Champion highlights and case studies, and powerful images of WABCU community groups and volunteers in action.

Beyond cleaner beaches and waterways, participants collected vital data for the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) Database—strengthening the evidence needed to identify litter sources and prevent debris at its origin. This ongoing collaboration between communities, AMDI Partner organisations, and Traditional Custodians reinforces environmental stewardship and demonstrates Western Australia’s leadership in coastal conservation.
