DRUMMOND COVE, Geraldton.
On Sunday June 9th a beach clean up with a difference is taking place at Drummond Cove in Geraldton. The initiative is the brainchild of 9 year old local coastal champion, Nellie Lewis, who is passionate about environmental issues across the board and wants to find ways to help raise awareness and contribute to environmental stewardship in any way she can.
‘Nellie is very keen to keep learning about ocean and coastal issues and chooses to contribute in her own way by focusing attention on taking local action’ says Nellies father Gareth. ‘She has recently written a poem about the ocean’ says Gareth ‘and she is passionate about sharing her message about care for our natural environment in a positive manner’ (see picture of 6 year old Nellie sharing her feelings on reasons to save the earth)

The clean up event on June 9th will focus on the areas near John BATTEN Hall and the bushland between Barnacle road and Glenfield Beach drive.
Nellie is working in partnership with wonderful local volunteer Heather Beswick from Birdlife Australia and City of Greater Geraldton who will be doing a combined Boxthorn Blitz workshop on the day.
‘Lots of yummy catering and free goodies provided for those in attendance’ says Environmental Officer Shannon Holler.
If you’re located in the Geraldton area, please get on board coastal champions! This is how it’s done.
