Successful 2026–27 CoastWA grants announced

The Minister for Planning and Lands has announced grants worth $4.09 million for 35 projects addressing coastal erosion, hazards and management across Western Australia. Since 2021, the CoastWA program has invested more than $22.4 million in projects that strengthen the State’s ability to manage and protect its coastline.

Key projects include addressing erosion at Lancelin, in the Shire of Gingin by the design of emergency works and a coastal process study. The City of Mandurah will receive funding to support the design and implementation of coastal protection works at Doddi’s Beach, while the City of Greater Geraldton will receive funding to support management of Grey’s Beach and the Greenough Rivermouth.

Projects across the State, from the Kimberley to the Great Southern, will also receive funding for community capacity building, weed control, dune rehabilitation and restoration activities. These projects include funding to Nyamba Buru Yawuru to construct a new stairway access to a significant site at Man-Galagun Beach in the Yawuru Conservation Park, to Perth NRM for their ongoing Coastal Capacity Building and Adopt a Beach Projects across the Perth metropolitan region and to  Peron Naturaliste Partnership to prepare a 4 x 4 Off Road Vehicle Management Strategy for the region.

Additionally, five local governments will receive funding to complete Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plans (CHRMAPs) and CHRMAP implementation planning. These plans help identify coastal hazards, including erosion and inundation, and support the development of short and long-term management responses.

The grants are provided by the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage on behalf of the Western Australian Planning Commission and the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure.
