Bird’s-eye view of Exmouth Gulf

SPOTLIGHT ON GASCOYNE

This is an epic drone photo taken in the Exmouth Gulf.

The dramatic coastline of the Exmouth Gulf.

Apart from the obvious incredible beauty of the area, the Gulf is such a unique and diverse ecosystem. The tidal mangrove creeks provide nursery habitat for many species including the critically endangered Green Sawfish. They are amazing!

The salt flats and mangroves give way to an expansive body of shallow water that is also home to two critically endangered species of sea snake, the leaf-scaled and short-nosed sea snakes, and tens of thousands of humpback whales are currently resting with their calves here, before starting the long journey back to Antarctica.

The Gulf is still largely something of an enigma which adds to its appeal and highlights the urgent need for further research and protection, which is why we love working in this area so much (you can see our little boat in the bottom of the frame!).
