Coastal restoration – what works and what doesn’t?

SPOTLIGHT ON WEST COAST – PERTH

On Tuesday May 15th, WA Landcare Network (WALN) and the WA Coastal Marine Network (WACMN) invited landcarers working in the coastal space to join them for a Landcare Checks In online event dedicated to discussing current coastal restoration learnings from the west and southwest of the state.

The catch up offered an opportunity to hear about about ‘what’s working and what’s not’ with informative talks from Mike Ewing (Cottesloe Coastcare) who presented on the group’s work involving soil testing and Bruce Ivers from Trees Australia who discussed some of the seedling trials he has been running, and the key learnings from the trials.

The Margaret River Coastal Residents Association also shared some of their inspiring work and success using pigface translocation and brushing techniques in the Capes region.

This event provided a wonderful opportunity for over 20 coast carers to share their successes and challenges through the informative presentations and questions and answers that followed.

For anyone interested, the recording is now available HERE to watch back.

The WALN next Landcare Checks In session will be focused on the Future Drought Fund- Unpacked for Community Landcare. You can register to attend HERE

We look forward to following up the great conversations from this event with ongoing connections with coastcarers around the State culminating in a whole of WA discussion at our Coastal Conversations event scheduled for October 18th in Perth – save the date!
